Ingredients
-
1 ½ cups chopped iceberg lettuce
-
15 oz. frozen thin cut french fries
-
16 oz. ground beef
-
10 slices American cheese
-
5 burger buns
-
½ cup dill pickle chips
-
Melinda’s Ghost Pepper Ketchup, to garnish
-
French fried onions, to garnish
-
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 425º.
Finely chop iceberg lettuce and set aside.
Spread about 15 oz. frozen french fries on a large baking sheet in an even single layer.
Bake fries for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
In a large mixing bowl, add ground beef and salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to incorporate all ingredients. Portion into (5) 3 oz. burger balls.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. When pan is hot, place burger balls in pan. Smash down firmly with a burger press and parchment paper to flatten burgers into thin patties. Remove parchment paper.
Allow patties to cook and develop a good dark brown crust before flipping, about 4 minutes. Flip and place 2 slices American cheese on top. Cover pan with a lid to allow the steam to help cook the cheese. About 3 minutes.
While patties are cooking, toast burger buns in a toaster.
To build the smashburger: Make a bed of shredded lettuce on the bottom bun. Place cooked patties on the lettuce. Add about 3 dill pickle chips, a generous squirt of Melinda’s Ghost Pepper Ketchup, a hearty pinch of fried onions and finish with the top bun.
Serve with french fries and more ketchup!
