Food & Wine: Chefs Reveal the Most Impractical Kitchen Products — and Recommend What to Buy Instead

Food & Wine recently featured insights from top chefs on which kitchen tools aren’t worth your money and what to buy instead. David “Chef Fig” Figueroa, chef, president, and co-founder of Melinda’s Foods, shared why he avoids electric grinders. “They are slow, clunky, and die right when you need them most,” he said. Figueroa also advises replacing bargain nonstick pans with stainless steel or premium models. “Those bargain nonstick pans lose their coating in months, and warp after a couple of hot meals,” he explained. For nonstick, he points to Hestan’s Titum or Made In’s top-tier pans as long-lasting investments. Pairing these with stainless or carbon steel pans can upgrade your entire cooking experience.
